The Greensand Way Section 2 - Ashford to Lenham

  • Apr 7, 2013 · 9:15 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

The journey so far

Section 2 – 16.5 miles

The end time given for this event is the approximate time of arrival at Lenham Station at the end of the hike.

Please read the Three Golden Rules of Joined Up Hiking.

Are you OK with those? All right, then you may continue...

This is a full day out, with a good long hike at a fast medium pace both before and after lunch. We start by retracing our steps out of Ashford along the river Stour then up out of the valley through Godinton Park and onto the low Eastern end of the Greensand Ridge, with some broad expansive views over the patchwork fields and orchards of Kent, the garden of England.

As well as the rolling green acres, woods and hedgerows there is plenty of architectural interest, as we pass by a number of old churches and grand mansions and no doubt an iconic oast house or two. Just after half-way we make a stop in one of the villages for a pub lunch.

There is a £1 charge payable to the organizer on the day.

Some general recommendations and tips.

Alexander - yep - I certainly plan to do this. Plenty of M&S Simply Food-type places at the station.

Hi, thanks for your menu orders from those meeting the group at Ashford, which I have carefully noted. Could I ask anyone else to send me an email with their choice rather than as a comment. Cheers. (Mine's lamb too.)

    Lamb please!

    April 2, 2013

  • Christopher

Hi, an Important Notice about lunch. If you want lunch in the pub please look at the menu as we will phone through our orders beforehand.

Scroll down to the lunch stop section in the event description and click the 'menu' link.

This is especially important if you are (a) vegetarian or (b) meeting us at Ashford rather than St Pancras.

Hi Christopher! I really want to attennd but dont want to do one and then drop out. Would they all be on Sundays? Thanks, shalini

    April 1, 2013

    • Christopher

Hi Shalini, it'll be great to see you back on the trail after a long absence. I'm intending to arrange all the Greensand Way hikes for a Sunday but I can't guarantee it, as the transport is sometimes not very good and it has to be on a Saturday for that reason. The next two after this are definitely on Sunday.
