The journey so far…
Section 3 – 17 miles
The end time given for this event is the approximate time of arrival at Yalding Station if you don’t stop for a drink in the pub near the end of the hike.
Please read the Three Golden Rules of Joined Up Hiking.
Are you OK with those? All right, then you may continue...
This is another long and rewarding day out that includes more than 6 hours of hiking. We follow the ridge due West for 17 miles across great tracts of the Kentish heartland, passing through numerous orchards and a couple of country parks, with as usual a number of impressive mansions and old churches along the way.
After seven miles at our usual fast medium pace we’ll stop in an old village pub for lunch. Then it’s three more hours along the side or on top of the ridge before the final two miles dropping down to the village of Yalding and across two rivers, the Beult and the Medway, with the option of stopping at another pub for refreshment on the way to the station.

Full Itinerary with Estimated Timings
Meet Up: Arrive between 8:15 and 8:30 at Victoria Station, by the railway ticket office. I will be wearing the floppy hat and moustache for recognition. Get into groups of 4 for buying tickets.
Note: We are meeting up about an hour earlier than normal in order to fit everything in.
Buy Ticket: A return to Ashford International will cover both the journey out to Lenham and the return back from Paddock Wood. Then a single is required for the short hop from Yalding to Paddock Wood, so:
Off-peak day return from London Victoria to Ashford International – price £26.30 down to £13.15 each in a group of 4.
Anytime single from Yalding to Paddock Wood – price £2.70 down to £1.35 each in a group of 4.
The total rail fare is £29.00 down to £14.50 each in a group of 4.
Outward Travel: 8:45 a.m. train from Victoria Station platform 1 to Lenham, arriving at 10:01.
Meet for Start of Hike: From 10:00 to 10:05 a.m. at Lenham Station.

Part 2: 10 miles. 3 hours 50 minutes
End of Hike: Arrive at Yalding railway station by 18:00.
Post Hike Refreshment: For those who wish to reward their hiking efforts there is a pub near the river one mile from the end of the walk. There is also one a bit further on but it has diabolical reviews so I suggest we avoid it.

Change to platform 1 for the 18:29 train to London Victoria. Arrive at 19:25.
For those of us stopping for a drink the train to London via Paddock Wood leaves at 12 minutes past the hour every hour.
