The journey so far…
Section 4 – 13.5 miles
The end time given for this event is the approximate time of arrival at Sevenoaks Station at the end of the hike.
Please read the Three Golden Rules of Joined Up Hiking.
Are you OK with those? All right, then you may continue...
This is a bit shorter than the previous two hikes on the Greensand Way but distinctly hillier and with plenty of interesting features along the way. We come up out of the Medway valley in the morning to the isolated St Michael’s Church and then over gentle slopes to the Bourne valley and a fine country pub for lunch.

After this we strike though woods and pastures to St Giles’ Church at Shipbourne and on to Ightham Mote. I’m not sure if the 13th century manor house itself will be visible from the path but some of the cottages should be, as seen below. At this point there is a stiff ascent up onto the ridge, rewarded by some fine views as we walk along it, and a descent into Sevenoaks through Knole deer park.
There is a £1 charge payable to the organizer on the day.
Some general recommendations and tips.
