The Greensand Way Section 6 - Hurst Green to Betchworth

  • Jul 28, 2013 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

The journey so far

Section 6 – 19 miles

The end time given for this event is the approximate time of arrival at Betchworth Station if you aim to get the first train back at the end of the hike.

Please read the Three Golden Rules of Joined Up Hiking.

Are you OK with those? All right, then you may continue...

This is a truly massive walk – 19 miles and some of it quite hilly. Be prepared for a strenuous all-day trek at a consistent medium fast pace.

After seven and a half hours including a break for a picnic lunch out on the path we will get to a nice country pub, with about an hour for recovery and refreshment before the last mile to the station for the journey back.

As usual we pass through a variety of farmland, parkland, heathland, woods and villages as the path twists and turns through the East Surrey countryside.

You must bring a packed lunch.

Some general recommendations and tips.

My thanks to Chris for organising this lovely long hike through Surrey, wonderful vistas interspersed with tree-lined, shaded trails. The walk however was made by all the sociable, chatty individuals who made the miles fly by! Serious respect due dudes.

The only thing missing was a Bamboo Forest ! :-))

Brilliant! Chatting made the distance seem shorter, but my feet know now how long it was! Thank you, Christopher, for another great hike.

Hi, rather than everyone south of the river meeting at Victoria (only live one stop away), I'm going to purchase rail tickets for three other people who can get on the train at Clapham Junction. I know Laura and Em live south of the river (let me know if you want to bag one of these tickets). Is there anyone else who would like a return ticket?
