The Essex Way Section 6 - Manningtree to Manningtree

The journey so far

Section 6 – 12.5 miles

The end time given for this event is the approximate time of arrival at Manningtree Station at the end of the hike.

Please read the Three Golden Rules of Joined Up Hiking.

Are you OK with those? All right, then you may continue...

This circular hike is primarily an excuse to see more of the Stour Valley and Dedham Vale after walking 70 miles in the previous five sections to get here. From Manningtree we head up the Stour to the iconic Flatford Mill, then we cross to the north side of the estuary to explore East Bergholt and stop in a nice pub for lunch. Then we head south again to see a bit more of Dedham where section 5 ended, and finally get onto the next four miles of the Essex Way as we return to Manningtree.

As usual we keep to a medium fast hiking pace throughout the day.

There is a £1 fee payable to the organizer on the day.

Some general recommendations and tips.

Part 2: 6.5 miles. 2 hours 20 minutes

A very ejoyable walk - what's a bit of (very) persistent rain to grown up hikers like us eh?! Bring it on Christopher!

Yet another great hike! Thanks Christopher for your hard work! All the positive aspects of the walk made up for the never ending rain or as we also say "il pleut comme vache qui pisse" :-)

Thank you, Christopher for organising a shorter walk for the kind of weather we had... Your planning had great foresight! The chatting and the excellent company turned the rainy hike into a pleasant one, as ever.

Christopher is a great organiser. Clearly knew the hike well and had done a lot of prep work. Apart from the weather everything went according to plan. Looking forward to the next walk.

    Hi everyone,

The current forecast, and it could of course change, is that most of the really heavy rain will be over by the time we start walking but there may be more showers in the afternoon. Bring all your raingear!

My phone number as always in case you need it is 07971357104. See you tomorrow.
