The Leicestershire Round is a 100 mile circular route that showcases some of the attractive and interesting landscapes of this East Midlands county. We will be tackling it in a number of day outings and weekends away. This long-distance trail is only for the most dedicated joined up hikers as the travel cost out of London is about £40 and you have to buy your ticket well in advance, even to get that price.
If you happen to live in Leicestershire however you’re laughing.
Section 1 – 15 miles
The end time given for this event is the approximate time of arrival at Sileby at the end of the hike.
The total distance includes a one mile walk through the centre of Leicester from the railway to the bus station.
We start the Leicestershire Round itself in Markfield, to the North-East of Leicester and work our way West, passing through pretty villages, woods, an extensive deer park and past rocky outcrops, landscaped gardens, a quarry (a bit of an eyesore apparently) and around a reservoir, stopping for a picnic lunch out on the path and an afternoon drink in a village pub before the last three miles to the station.
Bring a packed lunch or buy something at St Pancras before departure or possibly in Leicester.
We will walk at our usual medium fast joined up hiking pace.
