This is a shorter than usual hike but quite hilly and it's a long trek of 8 miles before the lunch stop. We will go at our usual fast medium pace.
We will stop at a pub for lunch or you can bring your own picnic to have nearby.
There is a £2 charge payable to the organizer on the day.
Some general recommendations and tips.
Full Itinerary with Estimated Timings
Meet Up: Arrive between 9:00 and 9:15 am at Victoria Station, by the railway ticket office. I will be wearing the floppy hat and moustache for recognition. Get into groups of 4 for buying tickets.
Buy Ticket: You need to get two singles, as follows:
Single to Shalford. Price £12.20, down to £6.10 in a group of 4.
Single from Witley to London Waterloo. Price £15.30, down to £7.65 in a group of 4.
The total return travel cost is £27.50, down to £13.75 in a group of 4.
Outward Travel: 9:32 a.m. train from Victoria Station platform 12 to Redhill, arriving at 10:08 a.m. Change to platform 1B for the 10:19 train to Shalford, arriving at 10:52
Meet for Start of Hike: From 10:55 to 11:00 a.m. at Shalford Station.
Part 1: 8 miles. 3 hours
Lunch Stop: We will arrive for a late lunch at 2 pm in a village where you can either have a picnic or have lunch in the pub.
Part 2: 4.5 miles. 1 hour 50 minutes
End of Hike: Arrive at Witley railway station by 17:40.
Return Travel: 17:48 from platform 1 to London Waterloo. Journey time 56 minutes.
