The journey so far…
Section 10 – 11 miles
The end time given for this event is the approximate time of arrival at Haslemere station at the end of the hike if you go straight on to the station without stopping for a drink.
Please read the Three Golden Rules of Joined Up Hiking.
Are you OK with those? All right, then you may continue...
This is one of the shortest but hilliest hikes in the 18 months that Joined Up Hiking has been going, and it brings the Greensand Way to a rousing conclusion. It is the fourth long distance path that the group will have completed since it started last year and it has been the most popular, with consistently impressive countryside and good lunch stops.
This hike includes an afternoon stop at the top of Gibbet Hill looking out over the Devil's Punch bowl. This is practically as high as Leith Hill which we ascended in section 8. It is quite a long slog of 7.5 miles and 1260 feet to get there, so we will have a lunch stop before then and an extended rest at the top.
After that it's just a few more miles mainly downhill into Haslemere where we will hit the pubs to celebrate completion of the entire route by five or six of us who will have done all 10 sections.
You must bring a packed lunch.
There is a £2 charge payable to the organizer on the day.
Some general recommendations and tips.
