Countryside Church UU and Faith in Place, an interfaith environmental organization, will host a Winters Farmers Market offering small, local farm producers an opportunity to extend their income while providing consumers the change to buy local, fresh, and organic produce and products beyond the Midwestern Growing Season. Locally grown or produced products for sale will include cheese, grass-fed meat and free range poultry, soap, syrup, honey, wool, raw fibers, vinegars, dried fruits, milled flours, sauces and salsas, preserves, cider, fresh produce as available and much more. The public is invited to shop their heart's content or enjoy coffee or tea and a snack from the local suppliers. "Supporting local, sustainable food and the people who grow it is an important part of the environmental focus of Countryside Church," says Gail Wisniewski, co-chair of the Countryside's Green Sanctuary Committee. Additionally the church offers garden space to members who would like to grow their own food, regularly donates fresh produce to the local food pantry and teach its members and youth about the ethics surrounding our food choices. A percentage of proceeds go to an Illinois Farmer Crisis Fund that offers monetary gifts to farmers in crisis due to illness or unexpected expenses. There will also be the Countryside Church Cookbooks for sale with lots of great vegetarian and vegan recipes. Hope to see everyone out for this fun event.

Very nice event and high quality "stuff". Too bad that good, healthy food costs so much more than grocery store food. I bought a tart and baby portabello mushrooms. YUM!
