Next Generation Jozi JUG - Working as a Java coder

Len Weincier from CloudAfrica.Net discusses things you should probably know starting out.

The 'Next Generation Jozi JUG' is not a normal Jozi JUG.
It is specifically for skilling up new and intermediate Java developers in South Africa.

There is a regular Jozi JUG session that runs as a separate track to this. So please only RSVP to this event if you are a new and intermediate Java developer.

Agenda

18:00 - 19:00 Social and food

19:00 - 20:00 Len Weincier

Park in the boomed Firstrand Parking by Fegos

Sponsors of the event are LSD for the food and FirstRand for the venue.

Hi All. We have created a place on the cloudafrica forms for us to talk about java questions - its easier than these meetup chats and more focussed on Q/A style interactions. Please go on over to http://bb.cloudafrica.net/category/14/java and ask any questions you want to !

I have attended one meetup for the Jozi JUG but had to leave early because I was using taxis to get to the meetup and it was getting late and didn't want to find myself sleeping in the streets because of transport issues.

With the understanding that the people who offer these talks are probably working and can only have such meetups when they come back from work which is around the time that these meetups usually happen. I still feel that if the target is new and intermiate Java developers, the timing becomes a disadvantage for those of us who are still students and don't own cars. I suggest that the timing of these meetups be reviewed so that a larger audience can be reached. I think weekends can be appropriate depending on the organizer's schedule.

    • Richard K.

I don't think so. The topic will be on the soft topics of being a Java developer.(The things they don't teach you before you become a developer)

Hello Everybody, This will be my first meet up :)
I'm currently a 2nd year student at Monash studying for a Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences.

Did Java last year and I'm currently doing a Java Enterprise Edition Course now in Feb.

Looking forward to learning more and finding out more about Java in the workplace.

Had to miss the last one due to last minute emergencies at work - ended up leaving a lot later than what I expected. This one is alot closer to work so I'll be there this time around :)

Great, just remember this is the JUG for the less experienced community. The Arun Gupta talk is running in parallel.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
