One of the coolest features of Julia is the ability to directly call libraries written in other languages -- without writing any "glue code". I'll talk about my experience interfacing with a custom C library, and discuss potential pitfalls and gotchas. To add to the fun, I'll also talk about the PyCall library, which lets you call Python code from Julia. Finally, I'll shine a light on the murky recesses of the Objective-C run-time, which can be hacked to let you call Objective-C selectors from Julia. Lots of sample code throughout -- but no prior Julia exposure is required.
If you're hoping to leverage an existing code base from Julia -- or are intrigued by the future possibility of writing Mac/iOS apps in Julia -- this talk is for you!
