Join us with our event Partner, DC Droids to learn about the exciting world of 2nd Screen development for the Android mobile platform.
Popular Android author/trainer/speaker Mark Murphy will be presenting on writing ‘Second-Screen’ Apps using the latest Android SDK.
Second screen, according to Wikipedia, is a term that refers to an additional electronic device (e.g. tablet, smartphone) that allows a television audience to interact with the content they are consuming, such as TV shows, movies, music, or video games.
Android has mirrored the contents of the screen via HDMI since Android 3.0, and on select devices before that. Android 4.2 added the capability for developers to present their *own* content on this "second screen", replacing the normal mirroring. In this presentation, we will see how developers can create Presentation objects controlling what is displayed on the second screen, how to detect if and when a second screen exists, and how to integrate this into a fragment-based UI strategy.
NCLUD is a great venue to meet and network. JDI will be having meetups at this cool and versatile space soon.

My 2 Cents
2nd Screen Anyone?
2 Views are definitely better than one. And that will become more apparent this year with the advent of the successful launch of Pebble from a Kickstarter project to production. Up next, the rumore Apple and Samsung smartwatches. Why wait until then, Google Glass is almost here. 2nd screen development is going to be a big initiative promoted by JDI this year - a lot of potential there.
So what do all of these devices mentioned above have in common? They all are promoting, finally, a new way to interact and supplement what you probably already have in your pocket, the smartphone.
But 2nd screen concepts come in many flavors - some you may already know and use, some you may not have thought or know of yet. A great example is the explosion of interactive television and gaming apps available on mobile and tablet devices.
After the event.
Hey if want to discuss second screen development trends, what's coming online soon and what could be possible in the future - join me afterwards for an after event pow wow. Great opportunity to ideate on how you could incorporate this concept into you current and future apps. JDI is goint to focus on 2nd screen heavily including hardware use case scenarios.
