3rd Saturday at Mark's Place ---British, Classic Rock and Country

  • Feb 16, 2013 · 5:00 PM
  • This location is no longer available

This will be the 2nd night of 2 scheduled Saturday jams per month. Let's do this. There is really no format for songs played. Bring your talents, songs and inspiration to jam and we'll have a great time. M.M. and The Victim have done an awful lot of work to make this studio section of the jam very suitable for our needs. M.M. has also agreed to set up a smaller section of the jam site for those who want a nice cozy acoustic style setting. Bring the electric gear our bring some softer style instruments... Recently, M.M. has supplied the jam with sandwich plates, chips, water, sodas and pure courtesy. Please; Don't complain over a $5 donation to the jam. If you feel it deserves more, then let's do it. The Jam is on !!!!

Extraordinary jam. Like a kid in a candy store. with both acoustic & electric room. Everyone seemed to be cordial takin turns. What a treat to have 2-Bass players. And the drummers, all of them Stellar players. Once again, I am grateful to have you musicians to jam with. FUN-Thanks!~

looked like everybody made it in. the acoustic section really worked out nicely with john at the helm. rotation seemed to flow ok. if we go back to the selection list, it would help the flow tremendously. anita, great singing with you. glad you came. richard, great bass lines.

Thanks Naz. Agree rotation worked out, with a nod to Drew. Think maximum 3 guitards (sorry, bass expression for 6 string players) is almost too many. In acoustic it works but with amps, it just gets louder.

Smiling faces tell the truth. It was a great jam. Maybe we could add one electric guitar and bass on some of the Country numbers. How about a prelist of songs before each jam. Each member submitting 3-5 songs they would like to play or sing. Most members can get sheet music or tabs from the internet. we only need the song name, artist and key to play or sing in. We can have a sign in sheet to select who plays or sings on what song. Any suggestions are most welcome.

Hey, can I get some feedback on the following songs I'd like to try
Must be doin' something right ( Billy Currington) Em

You and Tequila ( Kenney Chesney)-would be nice if I can have a female vocalist to duet on this one F# ( I play the E chord capo up 2)

Don't close your eyes ( Keith Whitley) G

Easy come Easy go ( George Strait) D

I Cross My Heart ( George Strait) Bm

I'll print out copies for everybody!

Hey Bob, let me apologize for not making it clear what I meant when I said "play it by ear" I was referring to having so many jammers at one time, so we can probably just go with the flow and go with whatever the situation calls for and make sure everybody has a turn and has a good time. I wasn't making any kind of musical reference. And Mark, you make a good point too !

LOL, John...I think we both have the same goal here. Mark, I can often keep up with my eyes closed, but some modern tunes (like Sultans of Swing) have a chord change on every bar, or they stick in substitute chords that don't "logically" belong in the key (like "One" by U2). A beginning musician, unless he/she is very precocious, will need the chord progressions.

i rsvp'd but i have a family commitment i have to celebrate my mom's birthday, and i'm afraid i can't come to the jam until at least 8pm. if you think it will be going on until at least 10pm, i wil come.

    February 13, 2013

  • mark t.

i have a suggestion - the combination of having both a room for electric and a room for acoustic at the same jam location is a great idea, because it allows jammers to split their time pariticipating in both. that way we would bring both instruments and have less idle time

    February 14, 2013

    • Pat ( SKEETER) G.

Sure hope this idea works out. Should be a great time for all...

I'm familiar with most of the songs on your song list, love the Beatles, Susan Tedeschi - there's actually a version of Sweet Forgiveness (Iris Dement) that she does I'd like to try some day. I'll see if I can dig up some music on that. I'll try any harmonizing or duets.. we'll see how it goes!

    February 14, 2013

    • Pat ( SKEETER) G.

Have to start somewhere. You will really enjoy the members here. Pick a few songs to work on and will do our best to get it done.

Neno is a heavy metal dude I met the other day. He is trying to transition into something softer with a whole different kind of sound. I don't think he will be playing metal at the jam unless somebody wants him to.
