City Chickener Potluck, Red Hook, Brooklyn

  • June 13, 2009 · 1:00 PM

It is time for our first social gathering! This will be a potluck, so please come with a dish to share. Come meet other chicken enthusiasts and check out happy hens of the Red Hook Poultry Association backyard chicken coop in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The backyard space is small, so in order to avoid pecking and egg-eating within our meetup group, we are limiting the guest list to the first 25 people who RSVP. Come mingle with chickens and chickeners alike. Please contact Owen (meetup organizer) if you and your hens would also like to host a meetup.

The potluck was great. I would love to see a tour of other backyard chicken coops in Brooklyn - to see what other have done.

Great people, chickens, food, fun. Learned a lot about both laying hens and broilers. Nice to have a tour of both chicken sites in lovely Red Hook. Very interesting people and possibilities for future meet ups at other cool sites.

Great food, and a fascinating mix of chicken keepers and folks considering taking the leap. Declan and Maria, you are fabulous hosts, and thank you for showing us the meat chick operation. Looking forward to the next one!

I accidentally clicked something that took away my opportunity to answer "what dish are you bringing?". I'm thinking handmade bread with artichoke spread and ajvar. Since we're two also a Pasta salad (ravioli, seasonal stuff).
