What neighborhood of NYC do you (or would you like to) keep chickens in?

We live in Staten Island and have traded out our ornamental garden for an edible landscape. We can eat everthing we grow. So chickens are part of this plan.

Where do you keep chickens or where do you plan to keep chickens? For example: in a community garden, an urban farm, a school garden, a backyard, etc.

We keep our hens, in a coop in our backyard, and every now and then we let them loose and they forage around the yard eating grass and bugs. Doing what chickens do best, scratch and peck. They add a new deepth to our garden, as well and eggs.

Do you keep chickens now or would you like to start keeping chickens? Please explain your chicken situation!

Yes we have chickens. You can see their pictures on our photo page. We have incorporate the chicken coop into our garden, we have also started a composting bin for the chicken poop to uses later on in our garden as well. It recycling mayham.

hello group, my name is Frank, my wife and I are leaning towards a sustainable life style. Www.lettucebeesustainable.com

What Francisco M. is saying about this Meetup Group

Since joining this group my wife and I have gathered a lot of useful information about keeping chickens in our backyard.. We also met Maggie, another group memeber, who is currently showing us the ropes on how to keep chickens in our back yard "Maggie Rocks". We currenly have five black sex links hens which had been hatched by Maggie and these girls are doing great at four week old now. We just love them...I am currently building my coop and getting things ready for these girls to go out side. If it was'nt for this Meetup group, I would not have been able to meet such wonderful chicken knowlegable people, and also would not had been able to gather my flock. WE got it all in one place....Thanks to the Organizers of this group for establishing this forum you guys truly ROCK!!!!
