Hello everyone,
What are your plans for your chickens with Irene on the way? I'm thinking that we will bring them inside til it subsides...

All the research I've done points to a protein deficiency.  I've changed the feed to game bird food (higher protein) and I'm feeding more sunflower seeds and crickets.  I think right now it's just 'learned' behavior that the chicken won't stop.  If we had a whole flock, the offending bird would have been lunch a long time ago.

Hey all,
I have a 1.5 year old Easter Egger that needs a new home, and some TLC.  Our Barred Rocks started picking the EE's feathers this spring and hasn't stopped.  Now the offending chicken has pecked a hole in the side of the EE by her tail.  I've cleaned up the wound and it's looking better and better everyday.  However, the EE is still getting picked on.  If it keeps up the Barred Rocks will eventually kill her.

She's eating and drinking, is active and vocal.  Since the wound happened she stopped laying her big green eggs, though I'm not surprised for as stressed as she is.

Best case scenario would be you have a place you can quarantine/separate her from your flock until she heals, then integrate her into your flock.

Let me know if you're interested in helping out a sore chicken.

Cheers,
Brett
