Isolate it in a box far from your birds and check it for mites, lice, runny nose, coughing/whooping, swelling in eyes, or anything else that looks wrong.
Clean up the leg and see what the problem is...if there is no blood or obvious problem, be sure to check foot pad for black callus that might be bumblefoot.
Let it rest, feed it, water it, and see what happens.
If you are going to add it to your coop, keep it isolated and watch it for the above things for at least a week....longer if you want to be very sure. There are diseases that can wipe out your other birds very quickly so you owe it to them to keep new, unknown birds in isolation.
lucky chicken!!;-)

Hey guys,

So I found a chicken on the side of the road literally. Seems to have a problem with back leg.

I'm slightly worried if I bring it in with my other two chickens it may disease them is this one has disease.

Any suggestions?

Fada.

Hello everyone,

I'm helping out with a Spring Fair event at the 14th St Y on June 3rd. The theme of the fair is "Farm in the City."

I think it would be awesome to have a presenter who is a chickenkeeper in the city. Maybe even have a chicken that the kids could meet? Does anyone on this list do anything like that?  Please email me at: [address removed]

Thanks.

Frances Anderson
