You can also try adding a "curtain" to the nest boxes so they cannot see the eggs, but still have access to the nest boxes. My girls developed a bad habit of eating their eggs and this resolved the problem better than the golf balls. They feel more enclosed while laying and therefore less inclined to break the eggs if they sense some sort of threat. They also cannot see the eggs during the day and therefore are not tempted to crack them. I used some burlap for the curtains and also used the burlap to create a soft surface for them to lay on. I put the pine shavings underneath to further soften the dropping impact. The durability of the burlap lets me scrub it clean every few months.

Also putting some golf balls in the nests help. They try to peck a it doesn't feel good an it can really help.

I've observed that boredom and/or malnutrition increase egg
pecking. Some greens, more free range time, and plenty of calcium in the
form of crushed egg shells or oyster might help. Another thing is to
collect the eggs as often as possible so they don't have the chance to
form the habit (or you can break them of it).
That's just my two cents, and you're not necessarily doing anything wrong.
