We accidentally brought home a young chicken who grew to be a rooster. Alas, we couldn't keep him here in the Bronx (NYC) chevron city ordinance as mentioned. We found the Double D Bar Ranch which is a farm animal rescue on L.I. We brought our rooster, settled him in and then adopted two rabbits! Good luck....Sherrill
Dear Fada: From what I know, roosters are not allowed in NYC (which includes the boroughs) anyway. Try contacting some out of city rescues such as Farm Sanctuary and I believe there is one closer to NYC - just google New York Farm Animal Rescues.
You don't need any neighbor complaining, then you'll have trouble for even having a rooster.
Good luck, he sounds like a wonderful boy and I'm sure he'll get a great home - the farm animal rescues also adopt out their animals (making sure they go to a good home) or if they don't adopt him out he'll have a permanent and proper home on the rescue's farm.
