Yeah i supplement calcium, have shell and grit available and give them fresh produce regularly.  I dewormed in winter but should probs do it again.  I'll look for signs of molt and then treat for lice/mites.  we just did our twice yearly super clean out where we wash down the coop and scrub everything.  We do clean weekly and have DE available.  Thanks Melina - I just wasn't familiar with the chemicals for treatment...

You may want to consider calcium pills or powder. Any type of female poultry always could use some calcium to help the laying.

Hi Molly,
One of my girls hasn't laid in a few weeks either. She wasn't losing feathers at first, but now a few weeks in she is losing them a lot. It sounds like spring molting to me if she seems otherwise healthy. Just feed her a little extra protein.

Hi all,
Need some input - we have an Easter egger who layed regularly until recently - it has been about 3 weeks with no eggs. We cant figure out why. she is running around and acting normal, not molting and seems fine. She has some white spots on her comb and it looks a little funny but that is all. Her comb is a good color in spite of the white areas.
Thoughts?
Molly

Hannah, will you post the phone number and link to cornell so we can add it to our address books for anyone who has the same experience. I am right on the state line in CT at Bedford NY, so I often deal with NY State. I knew it was Cornell, and we have their specialty vet hospital here in Stamford, but I dont have the contact info to give my members in NY State.
Im so happy that you found them. Everyone in this group should keep the number.
You will learn so much from this, though it may be just one of those things, like internal laying.
Sorry for your loss.

Thanks everyone who responded for your condolences and advice!

A string of 5 or 6 phone calls led me to the lab at Cornell that Melina suggested.

The necropsy cost $60, plus the overnight shipping ($45-70). It's a little steep, but well worth it for the potential learning. The hen was only 11 months, and I handle and observe my birds daily, so the death was completely unexpected. I'm looking forward to learning if it was something I can prevent happening to my other hens. The doctor at Cornell has been very helpful and offered a lot of information (complete diagnosis due Monday).

Thanks all.

Hannah
