This is my first winter also. We have 4 hens and there are 4 people in my family. We don't really need 4 eggs/day all year long, so I am giving them a break. Also, I'm sorry I missed the meet-up on winterizing your coop. I hope my girls make it through the winter!
There was one day where the water froze and I brought out hot water and added it to the water thingie and it melted the water.
Do others have electricity or a water warmer in their coops?

Egg production has fallen off this week. I suspect it is due to
shortened day light.
Do you provide artificial light for your girls? what kind and what
Or do you allow them a break from laying for the winter?
This is our first winter with hens, so suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance
