if you look on my meetup discussion boards there is a rooster folder with some good options. www.meetup.com/chickens1Half of all chickens born are roosters and they need 8-10 hens each to be happy so thats why we eat roosters. They fight if there are too many.If its a beloved pet and you want to be sure that it will live, check out Animal farm on LI. You pay $30 donation for feed and your rooster can roam the 10 acre fenced petting zoo for the rest of its life. There is also a farm in the same town, but I dont know that they dont use the roosters for meat.at some point, if youre hatching roosters, you have to realize that they are used largely for meat. Its sad but they do fight to the death in regular circumstances.Melina--On Tue, Feb 11, 2014 at 8:51 AM, Martha <[address removed]> wrote:Check out www.backyardchickens.com. They have boards for people trying to re-home chickens. This is a much better option than sending it to the Farm Sanctuary in Woodstock, NY, which is already overrun with roosters. They are very vocal about the negative impact of backyard chicken keepers, so let’s not give them more fodder.
