MIDWEST SKEPTICS SOCIETY PRESENTS:

DON BELL & FRED HEEREN DISCUSS THE NEW TESTAMENT TONIGHT, SAT, SEPT 10, 7PM AT PERKINS.  DON'T MISS THIS!

TO RSVP, ADDRESS AND MORE INFO ABOUT THIS GROUP GO TO: http://www.meetup.com/skeptics-137/

Well, actually, it will be more of a friendly dialogue.
HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS THEY’LL ATTEMPT TO ANSWER, EACH FROM THEIR OWN VIEWPOINT:
Where did the material that makes up our NT come from?
How did Christianity spread during its first 75 years?
When and by whom were the Gospels written?
When and by whom was the rest of the NT written?
Who was “the historical Jesus”?
What was Jesus preaching?

Don Bell and Fred Heeren have been meeting on Saturday afternoons to discuss questions about  the origins of the New Testament and the historicity of Jesus.  Now they're ready to share their thoughts with the group.
Don Bell has post-graduate degrees on the subject from several universities; Fred Heeren admits he has no advanced degrees but merely took Bible courses every semester through college and has read a lot since then.  Fred says he can only claim to represent the viewpoint of the average evangelical Christian, and hopes to explain an evangelical's reasons for taking the New Testament seriously.  He also says he has opened his mind on many issues since college, and that Don has been helpful toward his re-evaluating his positions.  Don will explain differences between European and American scholarship on the "Who was Jesus?" question, as well as how much we can know and can't know about the sources for the material of the New Testament.
The two intend to question each other, then open the time up for Q & A and discussion with the whole group.
