Jerry DeWitt is the first member of the Clergy Project to go public about his atheism, and was fired. He will speak between 3:00 and 4:45pm and then we will go out for food and drinks.
During his dilemma with doubt Jerry ultimately held the senior pastorate of two very unique congregations, one charismatic dominionist and the other non-denominational fundamentalist.
***Presently Jerry DeWitt is unemployed so we are asking for each guest to donate $10.  We have already covered the cost for his travel to KC.  There is only room for 130 people, so PLEASE RSVP.***
>>>The Clergy Project is a confidential, invitation only, online community for active and former clergy who do not hold the supernatural beliefs of their religious traditions. The Clergy Project launched on March 21st, 2011. The Clergy Project was started by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, philosopher Daniel Dennett, researcher Linda LaScola and former minister Dan Barker.
Currently, the community‘s 133 members use it to network and discuss what it’s like being an unbelieving leader in a religious community. The Clergy Project’s goal is to support members as they move beyond faith.<<<
Dan Barker mentions Clergy Project at Skepticon IV
Three years after founding Recovering from Religion, Dr. Darrel Ray, is handing the reins over to someone who can devote much more time to the effort. “I simply have too much on my plate to do justice to this important movement.” Dr. Ray said. “Jerry brings experience, excitement and enthusiasm which will help us grow RR into a safe haven for thousands who are exchanging religion for a faith free life.
