Subject: Protest of Kirk Cameron

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know about an upcoming activism event KCAC is planning that we are pretty excited about. If you think this event sounds interesting we would love it if you would invite people from Meetup to join us!

Time: 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23

Location: First Baptist Church of Raytown, 10500 East 350 Highway, Raytown, MO 64138

Join the Kansas City Atheist Coalition as we peacefully protest Kirk Cameron and his religion-rooted bigotry against the LGBT community and women’s reproductive rights. Cameron is leading a seminar at the First Baptist Church of Raytown titled “Love Worth Fighting For.” KCAC and the Kansas Equality Coalition will be advocating for “Equal Love Worth Fighting For.”

We will stand on a public sidewalk on 75th Street, facing the rear entrance of the church, with signs letting Cameron and the Raytown community know exactly what we think of his views. The south entrance of the church is the main entrance for the ROC (a fitness center attached to the church) seen from 75th Street.

Among the public statements that Cameron has made about gays and reproductive rights are the following:

1) In a CNN interview with Piers Morgan, Cameron stated, "Homosexuality is unnatural, detrimental and ultimately destructive to foundations of civilization."
See video:

2) In the same interview, Cameron stated that abortion is “wrong under any circumstances” and that "someone who is ultimately willing to murder a child even to fix another tragic and devastating situation like rape or incest ... is not taking the moral high road. I think that we are compounding the problem by also murdering a little child."
See video:

3) Cameron’s “Living Waters” ministry website states that homosexuality is a self-destructive lifestyle equal to that of pedophilia, adultery, alcoholism or drug addiction.

“Homosexuals argue that they did not make a conscious decision to be that way, so it must be natural. They are born that way -- just as all of us are born with a sin nature and sinful desires (Ephesians 2:1– ). Tell them that it is natural for them, and for all of us, to be tempted to do things that God says are wrong. In the same way, pedophiles and adulterers (alcoholics, drug addicts, etc.) don’t make a conscious decision to "choose" that self-destructive lifestyle, they simply give in to their sinful desires. However, although sin is natural for unbelievers, that doesn’t mean God wants them to remain that way. God can set them free from their sinful nature (Romans 7:23–8:2), give them new desires (Ephesians 4:22–24), and help them withstand temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13). See 1 Corinthians 6:9– 1 footnote.”
