This will be approximately a 4 mile hike. Three of those miles are considered difficult, with semi-steep or steep, rugged terrain. Bring plenty of water and snacks or a sack lunch. There is a picnic table at the trailhead, but primitive restroom facilities ONLY in the Conservation Area.
Bluffwood Conservation Area is 9 miles south of St. Joseph in the Missouri River loess hills. There are several scenic overlooks of the Missouri River floodplain looking west into Kansas . The area is mostly forested with scattered open grasslands. Hopefully the timing will be right to see some vibrant fall colors.
