New Years Canoeing on the Current River, Missouri Sierra Club Outings Trip

  • Dec 29, 2013 · 12:00 PM

(Trip closed as of Dec. 19, 2013)  Skip Times Square and come celebrate New Year's during four relaxing days on a wintertime canoeing expedition on the paddler-friendly Current River in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. We'll base camp at the Pulltite Spring Campground and then venture out each day by canoe to explore historic places and crystal clear springs, go fishing, and enjoy a scenic spring-fed river. Since we’ll be traveling during tourist off-season, we will nearly have the river all to ourselves. Novice paddlers and families are welcome. Canoe rental, paddles, PFDs, shuttle, permits, most meals & other expenses are included in the trip fee. This is Sierra Club National Outings trip #14400a. For full details on itinerary and trip price, go to http://content.sierraclub.org/outings/national/brochure/new-years-canoeing-current-river-ozark-national-scenic-riverways-missouri. Reservations must be made through the Sierra Club Outings Dept.

Here is a map of cave spring trail which goes to devils well, where with a very good flashlight you may be able to see the lake at the bottom of the sinkhole. A relative went down there before they limited access for safety. I think it's close to pulltite campground if I remember right. http://www.nps.gov/ozar/planyourvisit/loader.cfm?csModule=security/getfile&PageID=149541

    Bill,

Sounds like an interesting trip. We are strongly considering signing up. (2 of us) How many spots are left? Do we need to decide ASAP?

Hi Tom: Thanks for your interest. We've set a max at 16 and there are currently nine paddlers signed up (3 from Missouri, 3 from Florida, 2 from New York, and 1 from Chicago). We are intending to stop sign-ups around Dec. 9th to give myself and the other co-leader time to prep and buy food for a set # of people. Please, don't hesitate to write with anymore questions!
