Bike the Prairie Spirit Trail

Built on the rail bed of the old Leavenworth, Lawrence and Fort Gibson Railroad, the Prairie Spirit trail offers easy grades for hikers and bikers alike. We'll meet at the Ottawa Deport  Trailhead and ride to Princeton and back (18 miles round trip).  Ottawa is about 50 miles south of Kansas City.  This is a moderately easy ride and no one will be left behind but please come prepared to ride the entire distance and bring adequate water and/or snacks.  The trail is paved through the city of Ottawa but is crushed limestone in the countryside so it is best suited for hybrid bikes or road bikes with wider tires.  A $3 Sierra Club donation is requested and there is a $3.50 day use fee for the trail (self pay at the depot).

Hello everyone, I changed the details of this Meetup a bit. I decided to meet in Ottawa since it is a little easier to find (off of 68 Highway and I-35). We will ride from Ottawa to Princeton and back for about 18 miles but you are welcome to ride further if you feel so inclined. There are many post-ride lunch options in Ottawa. The Princeton trailhead has bathrooms and picnic tables so we can stop and rest there for a few minutes. Bring plenty of water since there won't be much available once we get out of town. My cell phone number is (913)[masked] so feel free to call me if you're running late. I look forward to seeing you this weekend.

    Hey Melissa,
Thought you might want to know the map link is pulling a location in KC--or at least it is for me.

I put those coordinates into Map Quest and it shows Richmond Kansas? I can't find a street address anywhere though. I'll set up a meeting point where we can meet and caravan to the location so no one gets lost :). Thanks for pointing that out.
