Camping at Indian Cave State Park Nebraska

• Indian Cave State Park is located along the Missouri River approximately 2 1/2 hours north of Kansas City in Nemaha Nebraska. We'll leave Kansas City at noon on Friday, April 18 and set up base camp in one of the established camp grounds.  We'll have most of the day Friday and Saturday to explore the park, hike the numerous trails and visit Indian Cave or the old town of St Deroin.

On Saturday April 19 the park will be having the Outdoor Adventure.  Some of the available activities include: horse rides, birdwatching, a mushroom hunting contest and glow-in-the dark easter egg hunt.  We'll head back to Kansas City Saturday evening.

I'll send out information on where to meet for carpooling soon.

Was anyone planning to carpool from KC? Didn't see directions to park on meetup site. Also noticed Shubert listed and Nemaha. Not sure which to aim for. Let me know. Thanx. Calvin.

Hey everyone, Melissa and I are here :). We're at the Hackberry Hollow camping loop, site #119 (look for my white honda van). As of right now all the sites around us are open and there are plenty of level spots for tents. Cell reception is iffy so texting may work better than a phone call....let us know when you think you'll be arriving so we can keep an eye out! My number is[masked]

Otherwise call my cell phone (913)[masked] or text me when you get there and I can provide you the campground information. If you can't make it please change you RSVP so we'll know not to expect you.

Just a heads up. The Kansas City Adventure Club has a group of about 19 backpacking here this same weekend. I will be backpacking during the week and should be leaving by Friday. Have a great trip. Oh and I'm planning on finding all of the Morels before the weekend event. :-)

Hey Derrick, I did know that but it's a big park and we're sticking to the campground so I don't think that finding a good camping spot will be an issue. Have fun backpacking...see you next time.

Hey everyone, due to the fact that this event will be on easter weekend and the park will be hosting the 3rd annual outdoor adventure I've changed the details a bit. We'll be going up on Friday and staying one night in one of the established campgrounds (think electricity and showers). Saturday April 19 is the Outdoor Adventure at Indian Caves, it should be a lot of fun. I went up last weekend to to check out the park and it is nice; there are a lot of trails, scenic overlooks, an old town, and of course the cave. The trails were relatively uncrowded and totaled about 21 miles altogether with lots of views of the Missouri River. I'll send out carpool meeting information closer to the date, hoping for good weather.

I was in the market for a good backpack that I can use for both - day hikes and multiple day hikes. I finally got an Osprey Kestrel 48. The other option I was considering was a Deuter 40+10. Thoughts and comments? Would this backpack suffice for the Nebraska camping trip?

Yes Melissa, I am attending the backpacking 101 class in March. Paul told me the class should guide me towards a good pack.

REI site is pretty good. I was looking at the backpack chart earlier on the site. Very helpful.
