"The Wilderness World of John Muir"(2001, editor Edwin Way Teale) is an anthology of great nature writing by a most influential conservationist. This "Patron Saint of the American wilderness" and "Father of the National Parks" so freely left society and so deeply connected to nature that he inspired our American culture and psyche to always value and protect wild places.

Check out this 2006 summary of wilderness history, page 9-10, "Wilderness and the American Mind":

Obtain & Read: 1/3 of the book for our first meeting, to start to commemorate wilderness protection and the 100th year since Muir's death.
