Basic Obedience Class #1

First class in a series of six sessions...

Basic Obedience is the foundation for all other dog sports and is offered to dogs 4 months and older.  A dog that works comfortably with his handler is a much easier dog to introduce to Agility, Rally, Flyball, K9 Freestyle, etc.  In addition, a dog that knows what is expected of him/her is a much happier dog in the long run.

In this class you will learn the basic commands....

Sit
Down
Stay
Come
Heeling on a loose lead
Turns

PLUS we will continue into higher commands as the dogs progress.. leave it, recalls, wait, etc.  We also learn several exercises to enhance your dogs focus on you,

IMPORTANT:  All dogs must have all their vaccinations current including Rabies & DHLPP.  Bordatella is also recommended.  Everyone must bring a copy of your dog's records to the first class.  This copy will be filed with your registration form and kept for our insurance requirements.

We will also help prepare your dog for the Canine Good Citizen Certificate which is often your dog's first AKC title.  In addition to the basic commands, your dog also needs to learn to be comfortable around other dogs and different people.  The CGC is also a stepping stone for training your dog to become a Therapy Dog.  As with all our classes, we use the positive training method.

The class is six sessions long and requires a $60.00 donation for KCA members and $80.00 for non-members.  (the other $20 pays for your KCA membership fee until July 1, 2014)

A minimum of 3 dogs required to sign up to hold this class.

You will need to bring the following...

Loose fitting collar
6 ft. leash
Lots of small soft treats
Water for your dog
A copy (for KCA to keep) of your dog's up-to-date shot records

What a great class! This is going to be a fun class, everyone seems very enthusiastic to learn about training their dogs. A really nice group of dogs. Remember to work on your sit and your heeling exercises. Try different treats to find the most enjoyable for your dog, then only use it when training. Looking forward to next week.

That is good, if the person that will come on the 21st can come observe on the 14th that will be a good thing, too.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
