Dear KCDesignCore members:
We've just been informed by JCCC that they will not be sponsoring the Regnier Center location for any user groups in 2013 (including us!) due to "staff and budget cuts" and the increasing need for lab space for "paying customers." While this is extremely disappointing, it's the way things go, and they have taken care of us for several years — so we appreciate their support and wish them well (as they ceremoniously drop us on our heads). This news came without any warning and was presented in a confusing way, but we're going to make the best of it.
You can probably imagine our frustration, to suddenly be told by our long-term location sponsor that we're "homeless" — but at least we have a little bit of time to find another place, since we'd already planned for an online-only meeting in January 2013. Our first in-person meeting of the new year will be on Thursday, February 7.
This is where you come in. As members of the group, we'd like to hear what suggestions you might have for future meeting locations! Are you connected with a company or venue that could handle us one day each month? We promise to clean up after ourselves and take care of keeping things nice. :)
Goodwill, community, and education are all things that make our KC Adobe Groups work, and we'd like to find a home where those things are fully supported and encouraged, rather than the pursuit of the almighty dollar; although if you know of a good restaurant/bar that has a good AV-ready meeting room, I'm sure we could find a way to support them financially through our sponsors by buying food or drinks.
Please reply to this email if you have good connections or suggestions, and if we end up with multiple venues from which to choose, we'll post some sort of "member poll" to help decide.
Thanks in advance for your great ideas! Sorry to drop this on you right before the holidays, but it's a lump of coal in our stocking, too.
Buck Sommerkamp and Jim Hinds
