Philosophy of Mathematics

Math is not about arithmetic. It's not about symbols and their manipulation. Fundamentally it's about ideas, and hopefully we can get at some of these core ideas together.

Rest assured, you don't need to brush up on your algebra to join in the conversation. In fact, if you despised math in school come tell us why. I'm sure the topic of math education and it's shortcomings will be raised as well.

If you are interested in ideas (I), and can make it to Bella Cucina (B), then hopefully you (U) will be a member of the set: UIB

P.S. I had been waiting for a subject matter expert to join us for this event, but member feedback has encouraged me to forge ahead with the topic myself. I will try to do it justice. Let that be a lesson to you - if there's a topic you'd like to see in this group - let me know about it!

Just in case anyone wanted to look at that AMAZING app I was talking about at our meetup (the one taking kids from pictures to algebra in a few hours) you can find more information about it here:

I have something else that might run till close to 8 p.m., but I'd like to try to at least come late and get a little long overdue remedial math training.

OK, I've dropped the other thing and will drive down with Cole & Eric ... because what could be a surer thing than math?

Looking forward to meet you all tomorrow. I am driving from Independence, and will be happy to pick up any one with me around 6:15 from KC. or ride with anyone.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
