This August's full moon will be the biggest and brightest full moon of the year. In fact, this month's full moon is known as a "Supermoon" because it will be especially close to the earth while its in its full phase, making it appear distinctly larger in the sky. And not that we need a full moon to get us out on the water for a little twilight paddling, its nevertheless a great reason to get together and admire the night sky from the vantage point of a paddle board.
For a little more info on what a Supermoon is exactly, here is the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermoon
On Sunday August 10th we will conduct two group paddles, both starting and ending at Volunteer Marina on Volunteer Landing Lane. The first paddle will take place from 6am - 7:30am to watch the Supermoon set over the Downtown skyline (Moonset 6:40am). The second paddle will take place from 8pm - 9:30pm to watch the Supermoon rise (Moonrise 8:20pm). This particular meetup event pertains to the evening paddle, and for anyone who attends, we will provide glow sticks in order to comply with TWRA regulations as well as 2 free beers post-paddle.
For anyone who would like to rent a board from us for either of these paddles, please arrive at our shop (900 Volunteer Landing Lane) at least 15 min before the set departure time to get set-up. Standard 1hr rental rates will apply for both of these paddles ($19 for adults, $12 for kids 17 and under).
We hope to see you there!
