Kayaking, Lone Tree Island, Georgian Bay

Above all earth's creatures you were gifted with imagination to contemplate The Beyond.

Beyond your ordinary weekend lies a dreamland where molden magna melds into peaceful pristine pools.

Where galaxy's super stars defer to planetary moons, humbly bowing to the meeker's ascendent presence.

Where infinitesimal insects inherit shapeforms from distant domanering dinosaurs diabolic.

Where a kayak awaits on the horizon of consciousness.

Where a Lone Tree fades on the Island of subconscious.

Whatever ~ ~ ~  --\--  ~ ~ ~

Get your kayak to 'Ice-cream on the'.

Get your shoulders against the southwesterlies.

Get it done.

Friday: Leave Kitchener-Waterloo, July 4, after work and drive five hours to Britt, Ontario. Tent for the night at, [masked]

Saturday: Launch kayaks 8:00 am and paddle north to the Churchill Islands 20 odd km away. Tent for the night on a rock of your choosing.

Sunday: Return to Britt by 4:30 pm. Commence 5 hour drive home.

$40 shared gas + $10 camping Friday night + $4 kayak launch + $10 shared parking for the weekend =  $64 (estimate before tax)

add kayak rental if necessary ($34 x 2 ) = $68,    $64 + $68 = $132

Kayak Rentals:

Swift, Waubaushene. [masked]-0881.  Hard to make closing time Friday. Ditto for Monday, although, they have drop off after hours options.

Adventure Guide, Waterloo,[masked]-3121. Great policies for weekend rentals, pickup Friday and return Monday. Long distance to haul kayaks.

White Squall, Nobel (705)[masked],  Open until 8:00 pm Friday, closes at 5:30 Sunday.

This is 55 km over two days with long open water stretches.

Dedicated gym rats and boot camp types welcome regardless of experience. This is hard work.

** Please enter ride sharing transactions under this heading. Subtopics don't trigger emails to the larger group. **

Was a time we tried to meet at a Tim Hortons and drive up as a caravan. It got too complicated. Some people wanted to leave early to beat traffic, others couldn't get off work early. So, currently it is each car on their own. As for ride sharing we still hash it out on the meetups' web page. Trying to optimize ride sharing. // charges by tent and by vehicle so optimizing is a money saver in this case. // Because of kayaks (normally only two per car) it is difficult to optimize beyond two per car.

I'll be driving from Toronto with a kayak but I can make a detour to Kitchener/Waterloo to pick up an extra person for carpooling. If you have a kayak, we would have to discuss if your kayak and mine can fit in my car. If you don't have a kayak, then there won't be a problem :) text or call me at[masked]

Sorry to cancel but I had an accident. If I figure out about my car, etc. I may still join you if it's possible. For now I don't want to hold a space. Have fun!

Thanks Marv - I've adjusted my schedule and I'm good to go! This will be my first trip with a meet up group - will you be sending out information with all of the fine details or do we meet prior to plan things? I presume that I need to bring my own tent, gear, etc but wondering if there is shared gear for cooking, etc? Thanks and looking forward to it!

Yes bring your own gear including kayak. There are usually enough stoves to go around. No shared meals are planned unless someone wants to plan them. // With larger meetups we often have a google shared document to assist with ride sharing. People list if needing a ride or providing one. With this meetup just use this comment space here. // A week before I normally send out a series of 'Logistics' emails. // For now there is no harm in calling icecreamonthe and reserving a tent spot for Friday night.

If I can change my Saturday work schedule I'd love to come. I have a 4runner and can take a second kayak and up to 4 passengers as needed. I'll let you know as soon as I can. Looks like a great trip!

I added a guest under my name to reserve you a spot. If the meetup is full by time you Rsvp I'll relinquish it for you. (We need to keep the meet up small because Lone Tree is a tiny island).

Hi There, The posting says July 4th...but the narrative says July 11th....which one is this trip? Thanks!

    June 21, 2014

    • Marv

Thanks. July 4 is the correct date. 3 days after Killarney, one week before the Bustards. (Note the original global email which went out also had the wrong date).
