EDIT:  I've changed the location to the basement per Ben's suggestion, so that people can meet in a more public place! Hopefully to see you guys there!

EDIT2: List of games people plan on bringing:

Matt: Settlers of Catan (with Cities and Knights), 7 Wonders, Race for the Galaxy, Fluxx (monty python and star), and Quarriors

Josh: Munchkin and Cards Against Humanity

Severine: Forbidden Desert

Brad:Lords of Waterdeep, The Resistance, PathFinder Adventure Card Game, Marvel Legendary, and Last Night on Earth

Original Post:

I recently moved to downtown last month, and would like to find gamers who are downtown looking to play, or people who would be willing to come and play! I have an apartment by the KC Central library, and would like to get together with a few people at my place.

Whether you are a new or old gamer, I would welcome you to join me!

A few of the games I own/love to play:
Dominion
7 Wonders
Arkham Horror
Power Grid
Race for the Galaxy
Fluxx
Quarriors
(and many more)
And feel free to bring your own!

I am free most evenings, and would like to find one that works best. Hows next Thursday? If it doesn't work well, I can move it. I hope to create a recurring event and make some new friends!

I've suggested a downtown board game event for this Thursday. Please RSVP to make it an official event. :)

  • Lora

Derrr - this coming Wednesday, Jan. 15th I told a friend I'd go to an event with her. But I could do Wednesday, Jan. 22nd in the evening. We could also try Monday or Tuesday of next week, Jan. 13-14, if those nights work for peeps.

Also, I only have one or 2 board games (hehehehe). So, would request that folks bring games. I have Blockus and Othello.

I'm not seeing the one you made anywhere Matt, whats the time and address?

      January 12, 2014

    • Matthew

My place is downtown, 912 Baltimore Ave. And its starting at 7, though feel free to come by as early as 6.

I did some checking at the plaza library. Small conference room for half a day is $20 with $40 for the whole day. Large I'd $40 and 80. The small room will hold 8 comfortably and 12 if we are friendly with 4 small tables that equal 2 normal folding tables total. . The larger room will fit a lot more, may run out of tables there before seats. I was not able to get a good look in that room as it was being used. If either room is empty, with no reservation it can be used for free for 2 hours.

Once we get a group together, my place will hold comfortably 6 in the game room and 6-8 more in the living room at a folding table or two. I also have a silly amount and variety of games.

    • Matthew

I would prefer not to have to pay for renting rooms, especially for a recurring group event, but it might be good for a one time thing. Also, that sounds great for a place to play eventually!

I updated my RSVP. I didn't realize it was so far north. It takes as much time for me to go there than to go to Table Top. Let me know when we could play in uptown-midtown-downtown :). Have fun tonight!

    January 9, 2014

    • Matthew

Sorry you couldn't make it, looking to do something more downtown maybe next week

      January 10, 2014

    • Severine

I live in Westport and can host a few people too

      January 10, 2014

  • Lora

I live downtown. I'm going to start looking for a free, public location, so that we can at least get started downtown. I'll keep you posted.

One idea is that my building has a club room on the first floor. Technically it's only available to residents (key card access) but it's an open area and used by a variety of people. Any interest?

    1 · January 9, 2014

    • Matthew

I think this could be a great idea, especially since its a semi-public area. I'm thinking of organizing something for next Wednesday.

      1 · January 10, 2014

    • Severine

That would be nice, we can try a few places before picking one, if ever

      1 · January 10, 2014

  • Matthew

It was a pretty good turnout, though it kind of got mixed with the board gaming already going on, but it was fun for sure! I know I personally played quarriors, settlers with cities and knights, as well as the late night special at Max's place for some Elder sign, and I know some power grid and a couple other games (i think last night on earth?) were also down. I'm going to be looking for next Wednesday potentially, either at my place, or Lora's club room. I've been looking into public places as well, without much luck (I found out the library charges for their rooms, and kicked out a d&d group that used to meet there, so i doubt thats an option)

Matt, won't be able to make it tomorrow...apologies. However, I have a condo in the River Market (4th & Wyandotte) just a few short blocks from you and would be willing to game any time. My work schedule is atrocious, but I love gaming.

    January 8, 2014

    • Matthew

That great! Hopefully we'll manage to game sometime soon.

      January 9, 2014

    • Severine

I would like to join in if I may

      January 9, 2014

  • Rose F.

At last minute, I think I will stay home. Still very tired and not over my cold. Hope to be there next time.

    January 9, 2014

    • Matthew

:( Next time for sure. Get better!

      January 9, 2014

  • Ben

The address you have for the Basement is incorrect. Its located down on Tom Watson Pkwy/NW 64th Str. in the Village at Burlington Creek shopping center.

5908 NW 63rd Terrace is what shows up on Google Maps.

    • Rose F.

Yeah it's now Northland Gaming hahaha :)

      January 9, 2014

    • Josh C.

Nothin wrong with Northland :) Its quiet and peaceful up here!

      January 9, 2014

  • Brad

I will bring Legends of Waterdeep, The Resistance, Path Finder Adventure Card Game, Marvel Lgendary and Last Night on Earth.

    January 9, 2014

    • Brad

      Should be Lords of Waterdeep

      January 9, 2014

    • Matthew

Wow, sounds like we'll have plenty of games to choose from. You can never have too many haha

      January 9, 2014

  • Josh C.

Hey guys, looking forward to meeting a bunch of you! I can bring Catan, Munchkin and Cards against Humanity if any of those are interesting to play for anyone.

    January 8, 2014

    • Matthew

      Are you bringing it?

      January 8, 2014

    • Severine

Hi again, Matt. Looks like my Thursday this week might be opening up after all. Sounds like you have quite an interested bunch of gamers here! As Kendra suggested, perhaps a public place would be better suited for introductions. The Basement at 5908 NW 63rd Ter. actually has a boardgaming night on Thursdays and isn't too far from downtown. I could give you a ride if necessary, you don't live too far from me. What does everyone think about this??

    January 7, 2014

    • Matthew

I think this is an excellent suggestion, especially for those with doubts about meeting people for the first time. As long as people are interested in going there as well, I would be willing to go (and yes, a ride would be greatly appreciated as I currently don't have a car). I know the idea is to have something locally happen downtown, but it wouldn't hurt to have introductions at The Basement. What about everyone else?

      January 7, 2014

    • Severine

      OK

      January 8, 2014

  • Kendra

For my first meet up I would prefer a public place. (No offense Matt)

    1 · January 7, 2014

    • Matthew

I understand, as people were warning me against inviting people I don't know to my apartment. I wouldn't know where to quite meet up downtown, maybe the library (not sure what space they have available), since its available until 9 M-W.

      January 7, 2014

    • Severine

I am fine with meeting at your place

      January 7, 2014

  • Matthew

I'm glad to see all the interest so far! FYI, I probably can only have a max of 5-6 people this week (excluding myself) as I only have one table in a studio apartment, though it looks like that shouldn't be a problem. Some people have expressed difficulty in Thursday nights, so maybe next week we can move it to Wednesday, or maybe the weekend.

I'll also edit the list above with all the games I have later on so that we don't bring duplicates haha. As I said, feel free to bring anything you have, as I love to play virtually any game!

    1 · January 6, 2014

  • Lora

I also live downtown. Most nights I get off work at 5pm, except on Thursdays I work until 9pm.

    January 4, 2014

    • Matthew

Well, we can do another day next time, I know Thursday isn't the best for everyone.

      1 · January 6, 2014

  • Patrick B.

Maybe in the future. Working nights still. That is also the same night as gaming at Tabletop games and hobbies.

    January 3, 2014

    • Matthew

Yeah I know, but its also further away from downtown. Looking for people who don't want to go all the way south.

      2 · January 3, 2014

    • Rose F.

Yeah, I have a friend who lives at quality hill that would love not to have to drive all the way to Overland Park.

      January 4, 2014

  • frosama

I'm tentatively in :)... I'm new to the group but this sounds neat, I'm kindof an old school gamer but I'll try to learn these other ones.

    January 3, 2014

  • Patrick B.

I'm up in Riverside, pretty central as well. Once my schedule goes to days I'm sure I'd be up for it, hosting even.

    1 · January 3, 2014

  • Rose F.

I could make it but not stay late. I have to work at 6am the next morning.

    January 3, 2014

    • Matthew

However long you want to play would be great!

      January 3, 2014

  • Severine

    I am in!

    January 3, 2014

  • Ben

Hi Matt, would like to join you sometime but Thursday isn't a good evening for me and my friends. Let's discuss some other arrangements.

    January 3, 2014

    • Matthew

That would be great! Feel free to send me a message
