Play Diplomacy Online!

We are looking to start an online game of diplomacy! This will be a game that takes a while to play, and will be looking to play it over the course of many weeks. If you are not familiar with diplomacy, it is a military style game set in World War I. A short summary of the gameplay is as follows: Each player starts as a major world power with troops, as well as a facility to manufacture more troops. All turns are simultaneous! Everyone will write down their troop movements, and they will all be carried out at once. Before you commit your troop movements every turn, there is a diplomacy phase between other players, where you make secret deals and pacts. This last part is the most essential, and heart of the gameplay. It is also the part that slows the game down, as people want to try and negotiate deals between multiple players.

There is a website to play for free online (which I still have to check out), but it can be used for the map, and hopefully the communication between players as well. We can hammer out details on turn in times once we fill up (which is a max of 7 players). We can also go over a tutorial/sample round with new people so everyone knows how to play before it starts as well.

So the game needs the full 7 players to sign up, or it will get cancelled. I will remake it and give it 2 days to sign up again..

Gah! Sorry - I got busy and didn't realize it was past 2 pm - I just went to look for the game and it's no longer there :( If there's a next one (Or an open spot) I'll join that

I signed up and joined the game yesterday but now I don't see it. What happened?

This will be starting tomorrow. The game from earlier in the week got reset, so even if you joined the game before Friday, you will have to do so again by 2pm tomorrow!!!!!!!!! If all 7 don't join, we will have to create a new game again. We only have 3 included myself signed up, so the other 4 need to do so!

I didn't realize the other game had even started. I'm all signed up, I'll be there!

Ok, after a hectic week, I'm finally looking to get this game started. I will set it up to begin on Sunday afternoon at 2, so make sure you all sign up by then! The phase length will be every 2 days to negotiate and to turn in your orders. The game is again KCMEETUP, and the password is euphoria. Here is also a brief summary of the rules from their website: http://webdiplomacy.net/intro.php

I'm going to be on google hangout for tonight going looking to familiarize myself with the webapp, and a refresh of the rules. Feel free to join (you can do just audio if you wish). The link for it is: https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/e747n3rd2kfigsispstivppmuib

I will be online tomorrow evening using the website if people want to learn how to play and interact on this media. I will try and scrounge up a concise set of essential rules for people to reference as well. Hopefully we can get this game going for real by the end of the week. One of the things we will have to decide is how often people have to turn in orders. I'm thinking 2-3 days, to give people time to talk and built in room for other conflicts.

It doesn't look like it. I could go with every 2 days.

We haven't started. I'm hoping to have people make sure they understand how the game is played before we start

      June 3, 2014

    • Jessica

I think I understand the basics of it - I'll pick up quickly as we go along, I think

Sorry, guys. I thought this was going to be more like email diplomacy. I'm heading out of town, so I won't be able to play this week. I'll check for the next time or if there's a scheduled time to meet in the future.

This will be like email diplomacy, but I'm looking at Wednesday to hopefully go through a test run for new people.

I've also never played but I'm game for it.
