Float trip!

  • Jun 27, 2014 · 6:00 PM

I'll post more accurate location info as it becomes available, niangua river, but the plan is to leave KC after people get off work, set up camp, stay up too late, wake up Saturday and float, stay up too late, then drive home on Sunday.

As always, couldn't ask for a better group to go with. Thanks again Patrick for organizing this outing. Also, thanks again Carolyn for helping tow me down some stretches of the Niagua.... I'm definitely getting a kayak next time.

I've got a 3 person tent, just one camping chair, a sleeping bag, couple of flashlights. and tonight I bought a case of 32 waters (I can bring trash bags to help keep our campsite clean) as well as 12 brats, 16 dogs, 8 & 8 packs of peanut butter snack crackers & granola bars plus some slim jims. I also have 4 large camping forks for roasting marshmallows and/or dogs. I also have a medium size cooler

How many tents do we have? I have one that will have myself and my brother in it. Maybe one more depending on my brother's cot size.

I still have a grill, cook top with pans, cooking tools, a table, 2 camp chairs, and a decent size cooler. The cooler will leave on Friday in Carolyn's car.

My brother is going to head there on Thursday and is willing to fill his vehicle with our stuff since we may not all fit with gear in 2 cars! So tents, camp chairs, sleeping bags, cooking gear and other items can travel ahead of us.

when is he heading down thurs? could we bring stuff to game night for him to take w him?

      June 24, 2014

    • Patrick B.

He is heading out thrusday morning so we need to get him stuff tomorrow. At the very least I can get him my tent, cot, table, cooking surfaces, and food prep stuff tomorrow. Crap. Tomorrow is soon.

I finally got my car serviced and I can actually take Evan, Matt, & Megan if that's ok with everyone. Just contacted Evan and he seems cool with it.

I'd be willing to drive/ haul crap in my car. also what kind of costs are we looking at in terms of campsites and renting something to float on (I'd prefer not to build my own raft out of campfire wood lol)

    June 3, 2014

    • Patrick B.

I believe my brother would as well.

      June 19, 2014

    • Carolyn T.

that's fine, I think at this point its me driving you, your brother, and Sig, and then Evan is taking Matt and Megan in his car. That work alright for everyone?

Reservations made at http://www.riverfrontcampcanoe.com/ 3 Kayaks were all they had at this time. If we call later they may have one open us since they didn't give a deposit. We have 4 tubes. I haven't reserved a cooler tube. I'll let Matt, Carolyn, Sig, and Megan discuss If they want one, $12,since the three Kayak so will hold all Jason, Evan, and I will need. Prices are on the site and comparable. I can't see them with my phone, so can't post for sure.

Ok, next question: how do we want to do food? Everybody brings stuff? One person collects money? Live off the land?

    1 · June 17, 2014

What does everyone have/need in terms of supplies. I'm wondering what I'll need to scrounge from friends and family.

Also, an extra sleeping bag. Cast iron cookware, a mini fridge if we get a powered spot, and a decent size cooler. What else do we need? A second tend would be advised.

    • Carolyn T.

I have my own tent, my own sleeping bag, two camp chairs. and a very small cooler.

What time does everyone get off of work Friday and where do we want to meet? I get off at 4pm.

    June 18, 2014

  • Patrick B.

Evan, my brother and I, Kayaks. Megan, Matt, and Sig, tubes. What about you Carolyn?

    June 18, 2014

    • Carolyn T.

I don't really have a preference, kayak would be fine.

I need some numbers. Single person tube, multiple person tube, single person Kayak or canoe?

    June 17, 2014

    • Patrick B.

Coolers? That's what my camel pack is for!

      June 17, 2014

    • Matthew

I think I'm for a single tube as well

      June 18, 2014

Riverfront is the one I usually rent from (YAY TUBES!) and I really enjoy them. NRO is full of d-bags.

Did we finalize on a location yet?

    June 16, 2014

    • Patrick B.

I'm getting ahold of places. Finding one with a flexible reservation scheme. I'd rather not get stuck with fees for people that cancel.
