To remove solder I use braided copper wick. I've tried to use the solder suckers but basically these things don't work too well. One tip I can share is that sometimes the solder has oxidized and won't melt easily. Use a drop (or less) of solder flux on the braid to help remove the oxidation and lets heat transfer much more efficiently. Also, remove the braid as you remove the heat (otherwise you will solder the braid to the board). YouTube has lots of video tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=using+copper+braided+cable+to+remove+solder

Thanks Aaron. I've got a friend who may take a crack at it this weekend if he's able to meet up.

I have solder accidentally spread across pins 42 - 45 of an Atmega 128. I'll definitely give you a head's up if I'm not able to fix it by our next meeting.

I'm pretty booked up for a couple of weeks, but I have a hot air setup and desolder tools that might be of some assistance. I checked the thread you posted and wasn't sure if the pictures were of your particular project. If not, post some pictures here and I will see what advice I may be able to offer online. If we can't get it worked out here I'll be more than happy to meet up with you at the MakerSpace to help you out in person once my schedule clears up.

Gents - in trying to improve my soldering job I've made a mess of it. I've managed to spread solder across several other pins. Would anyone be willing to meet up and help me fix it?

This is what I tried to do: http://forum.turnigy9xr.com/converting-9xr-to-frsky-telemetry-djt-module-t362-75.html?sid=2104a00a9d270bafd5c552253b439edb

That's ok, birthdays are pretty important ;) We'll catch you at the next meetup!

It was fun meeting everyone else - a few familiar faces and a few new ones. The faster and bigger we can build this community, the quicker we can get into a real space. Thanks for all the support everyone!

Sorry I missed it guys. I forgot that I had to take my kids to a birthday party. Next time though!

The person you are thinking of was Aaron Brown - he has a very nice digital soldering/rework station. He also said he won't be able to make this open house but we could borrow the station if anyone needed it.

I like to twist the old adage into "impatience is a virtue". I tried the soldering myself and it looks like it was successful. Damned difficult though and took me a couple tries. Next time we meet up I may bring my transmitter so you can tell me if you think I did ok.

    See you next time...

I won't be able to attend the meeting this month but I am planning on attending the May meetup - if you can wait that long, I can bring my Aoyue Rework Soldering Station to see if that will work. http://www.aoyue.com/en/ArticleShow.asp?ArticleID=435

Last time someone mentioned that the had a really nice soldering iron and did some pretty delicate soldering. (Was it the other Michael?) I am trying to do a mod to a Turnigy 9xr that requires some soldering to a tiny chip. Any chance we could take a crack at it?

    Hey Makers!

This open house is going to be a good one! We've been working on all the things we need to get this makerspace going and we have a lot to show everyone. We have a lead for a possible location, we have a few classes ready to be scheduled, and we have a big announcement regarding memberships!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
