Color Me Rad

The Color Me Rad run benefits Special Olympics. The Color Bombs start flying at 9 am with waves of runners getting plastered with paint every 5 minutes after. There will be color stations along the route. These are where the best color shots are. Of course the color thows at the finish line are not to be missed. There will be more than one, so you will have plenty of opportunities to capture the magic and the mess. Jeez, who cleans this stuff up???

Slight precautions should be taken to keep the fine powder out of your camera. The color is basically a cornstarch product that has potential to get into your camera. Put a filter over your lens and cover the camera with an inexpensive 'rain cover' that can be purchased from the Camera Co-op or one made from plastic bags and rubber bands. Unless you want to shoot from the center of the action or with a macro lens, you should be safe with just a grocery bag covering your camera and lens. Be aware that you, too could be sprayed with color if you are standing too close or irritate one of the volunteers....

The color blows off for the most part, but bring a towel or trash bags to protect the inside of your car for the drive home just in case. This is a fun, family event, so feel free to bring spouse, kids, the dog and the neighbors. Sign someone up so you can document their run.

It was fun! I didn't get dusted too badly...I wish I'd made the one downtown, maybe it was in closer quarters than Reliant parking lots. There was some confusion because the runners ran in the opposite direction than the map indicated.
