For those of you interested in shooting for the All About Katy contest for the EDC, here is a local color event that you might enjoy.
On Saturday, June 15th, the Katy Elks #2628 and The American Legion Post 164 of Katy will combine to present to the community a Flag Day event. The Katy Elks Lodge presents an annual Flag Day ceremony honoring the flags of our nation from the famous “Don’t Tread on Me” and Bunker Hill flag to the current 50 star flag. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Immediately following the Flag Day ceremony, members of the Katy Post 164 of The American Legion will conduct a Flag Retirement ceremony outside of the Elks Lodge. The short ceremony culminates when the local citizens who attend are invited to help place faded and worn flags in the ceremonial fire.
This is the first time these two organizations will combine their annual events providing an opportunity to hear about the history of our flag from its birth to a final and fitting retirement of our current 50 star flag. The Katy Elks Lodge #2628 is located at 1050 Katy-Fort Bend Rd. one block north of I-10.
