Vintage car race at Texas World Speedway

Texas World Speedway close to College Station. $5 dollar admission allows you access to the paddock where all the vintage race cars are parked and will be able to take photos while they are racing on the track. If any interested I can give more details of the event

+++++++++++++++++++

Our host, David O'Dell has arranged for us to visit the Texas Motor Speedway to shoot some vintage race cars in action.

"I have been associated with racing since I was born and raced for 22 year and I’m currently a race steward. My big passion now is photography and I think for the photographers who have a passion for race car and especially historical race cars would enjoy this outing."

You will be able to walk the paddock and see the cars up close and should be able to get some good photos and also should be possible to take photos of the cars on track. There will be a brief safety meeting before we enter the race track to give explain the does and don’ts while at the track. The race is not run on the oval there is a road course in the interior of the track depending on the road course configuration they use it could be the 1.8 mile track or the 2.8 mile track.

There is a $5 fee to enter, but this isn't going to be a crowded event. Usually just the drivers and crew are here, so that should ensure that you are able to get some great shots.

 The race track is on highway 6 about 8 miles before College Station, address is 17529 State Highway 6 S, College Station, TX 77845.

Bring ear protection.

If anyone would like to share rides, please comment and we will make that happen. This is an all weekend long event, so come early and stay as long as you like.

Big shout out to David for inviting us to this event,

    I apologize for missing this event. I had RSVP yes and I forgot. By the time I realized my mistake I had 2 grandbabies in my care. Again, I apologize , looks like I missed a great meet up.

    Also, there will be around 125 cars and they will be broken into 7 race groups each race group will race twice on Saturday so you should have some good opportunity to shoot the cars on track. There are a couple very good places to shoot the cars on track. However, I cannot remember how tall the chain link fence is but my suggestion incase the fence is 6 feet tall is to bring a small ladder or use the bed/tailgate to shoot over the fence. There is a paved road at one of the locations so using a latter would be no problem. This location has a lot passing. The drivers love to talk about their car so feel free to talk with the drivers and crew. I believe you will have very good time at this event. I have talked with the event origination this morning and he said I might be able to take a few people around the track at lunch time I will not know until I meet with him on Saturday. See you at the track

    Just wanted get in touch with everyone who is going to the vintage car race and go over a few things. TWS is about 8 mile before College Station on Hwy 6 and there is an exit sign for Texas World Speedway (TWS) once on the feeder road you will turn right at the intersection with the overpass bridge this will take you to the entrance to TWS and where you will pay $5 and sign in. Follow the road until you see to buildings on the left you can park between these two building, the first building is the restrooms and the second is the concession stand where we will meet at 10am. The concession stand has a large covered area where the meeting will be help. The organizers of the race would like me to go over a few ground rules before heading out to shoot. I will say this in the meeting but I need to emphasize one important rule “race cars have the right-of-way” not pedestrians so please pay attention while walking in the paddock.
