Bike Ride - Kilauea - Waikoa Loop Trail

Bring your bike or rent one at the Mini-Golf place, and let's bicycle around the 5 mile loop from the trail behind Kauai Mini Golf -- through the mahogany forest, fruit orchard, past the tilapia ponds, resting at the Waikoa Dam overlook, stroll through the pathway there, and continue riding to Common Ground (stop for a refreshment if desired) and then back on the trail circling back to Kauai Mini Golf. It's a pretty easy ride except for a few challenging hills.

I have posted photos of this ride from previous outings, both on this site and the adventure club site, possibly under "Bike Rides with Julie" or something like that.

I would be leaving Kapaa around 9ish or later and will have room on my bike rack for 1 or 2 more bikes.  I'd be happy to carpool or caravan from the Coconut Marketplace.

The Waikoa Loop Trail is free to use, but a waiver should be signed by all participants.  Waivers are at the desk at the Minigolf building.  If you've already signed one, you don't need to sign another.  There is a snack shop, restrooms and bike rentals there at KMG as well.  Of course anyone wishing to play a round of minigolf after the bike ride might be prepared to do that.  There is a 40% discount for Kama'aina.

If anyone is interested in having brunch/lunch/refreshments at Common Ground as we come around the loop that way, bring some lunch money.

If it's a nice day, we could adjourn to Secret Beach after our ride, locking the bikes up and hike down to that beautiful beach and enjoy afternoon -- or sunset if we are out that long.  I might bring a cooler with some refreshments if that looks like a possibility.

In other words, be prepared for any change or addition to this activity. If you are like me, always with some lunch money and a change of clothes and swimsuit, we should have a fun day, come what may!   I will post my phone number closer to the date.  Feel free to post questions or comments below.

Hi Julie, I would like to join you but am unable to commit until later in the week. I would be renting a bike at the mini golf. Susan

No problem -- even I don't care to commit too far in advance, as with any outdoor activity, the enjoyment is somewhat dependent on the weather. Parts of the bike trail can be muddy after heavy rain, and I'm not too fond of biking through mud soup. We'll see how it goes... It's my only day off this month, so if there ends up being no interest, I might do something else.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
