UPDATE: WAIKOA LOOP TRAIL - STARTING FROM KAUAI MINI-GOLF IS THE TENTATIVE COURSE FOR NOV 11TH.
This meetup will change locations each week, between several choices. Kealia Spaulding Monument Loop, Wailua Forest Management Road, Waikoa Trail Loop, Kauai Lagoons, etc.
Sundays or a weekday that I'm free. Suggest a date and I'll check my calendar.
Waikoa Loop Trail
This is the trail that starts out from either the Kauai Mini Golf or Common Ground in Kilauea. I prefer starting from the Mini Golf. Very flat for most of the time, and a bit gravelly, but should be good on a bike. You go through forest and farmland. The Mini-bike place has bike rentals -- (Specialized Brand) but I don't know if they allow reservations or what the cost is. Call them at[masked] to ask.
I'm new to biking and so don't have a long list of paths, trails and country roads, yet, but there are a few novice paths I'd like to explore, but not by myself. I don't have any set day or time, but generally I'm free on Sundays. I'm not an early riser, so anytime between 10am and 4pm for start times works for me. I have a bike rack that fits up to 3 bikes.
Here are some places I'd like to explore on bike - Driving to the starting point:
Wailua Forest Management Road
The road beyond the Keahua Arboretum in Kapaa, past the Jurassic Park Gate posts... It's so quiet up there! (Well except sometimes when there is often some motor bike noises.) I would rather do this one when the air is clear (no vog) so can see the mountains, but anytime would be good!
Kauai (Marriott) Lagoons Area to Ninini Lighthouse
I've done this before on foot and by bike, so I feel safe enough by myself, but it would be nice to share it with someone. Lunch under the lighthouse? Aside from the smell of rubber from the planes landing, it's a pleasant place to ride with little traffic. Just the plain loop is 3 miles RT, blacktop. Spurs to the Lighthouse, wedding chapel, Ninini Beach etc., would add to the length and interest.
Kealia - Spaulding Monument Loop (from the Bike Path) is a gradual incline for 2 miles, to the monument, then flat and downslopes for the rest of the loop.
I'll add more ideas here as they come up, or if you have some ideas to share, I'd love to hear them. I'm always up for a spin along the bike path -- and taking a picnic to the bluff above Kuna Bay is always pleasant.
Dates and times can be set every week or can vary depending on my days off. At this time, I have the next several Sundays off and anytime after 10am is good with me.
One thing I will mention... If I don't already know you, I will want to have someone I do know along with us. Just a common sense personal safety precaution. ;-)
