Join us for a paddle from Snook Haven, Venice, on the beautiful Myakka River, Sunday, March 24 10am (please arrive 1/2 hr prior to launch and be on time). This will be approx 6 mile paddle. Experienced paddlers NO BEGINNERS due to large group-After the paddle we will hang at the restaurant for a bite and drink.
Usually you will see a gator or two here. Launch from a small launch area, just past the restaurant. Either launch at the bottom of a few concrete steps, where rental canoes are tied.....or from sandy shore just past the white gazebo on the right, accessed by stepping down a grass bank. You can unload kayaks very close to either launch area.
Very large sand/grass parking area. No fee for cars ($5 for trailers) Please be in the water and ready to paddle at 10:00. There is an “Old Florida” restaurant, restrooms, and picnic tables.
Sharkeys now runs the restaurant and we will stop for a bite after the paddle. Live music on Sundays. Many of us will probably eat at the restaurant and listen to some music after the paddle....or you can bring your own lunch and sit at a picnic table. Directions: From I-75 Exit 191, go south on River Road to Venice Avenue. Turn left (east) on Venice Ave. and follow it to its end. From Hwy. 41 in South Venice, go a short distance west of the Myakka River Bridge, turn north at the traffic light onto River Road and go about 4.5 miles to Venice Ave. Turn right (east) to the road’s end. From Hwy. 41 in “central” Venice, go east about six miles on Venice Ave. to its end. Get yourself eastbound on Venice Ave. and follow it all the way to its end. There is a large Snook Haven sign at the end of Venice Ave where you enter a long narrow sand road into the park.
