Memorial paddle for Gene Mathes at Emerson Point

10:30am LAUNCH Please arrive by 10 AM

This was one of Gene's
favorite paddles!

We'll put in at the kayak launch
inside the park - Emerson Point
State Park Snead Island

From there we'll paddle through
mangrove tunnels out to the bay,
which we'll cross and then paddle
around Rattlesnake Key if the
weather permits.

We often see jumping fish, Osprey, sometimes starfish on this paddle...possibly see other marine life in Terra Ceia Bay. This paddle has great views of the Sunshine Skyway.

This is an intermediate paddle and there will be NO kayak rentals available

Bring a lunch we will stop to relax and remember good times with Gene.

The trip will take about 4.5 hours. Bring lunch, water and sunscreen.

You are welcome even if you didn't know Gene.

Take I-275 across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Stay left for US 19, then take Business 41 into Palmetto. Turn right on 10th St. W. (2nd traffic light) and continue to Snead Island. Follow signs to Emerson Point Park (right on Tarpon Ave., left on 17th St. W.) From I-75, take Ellenton Exit #43 and proceed west to Snead Island.

Definitely memorable. Thanks to all for being so welcoming on my first paddle with the group, especially Cindi for keeping track of me in the foggy trip back.

Oh but the fog really made the trip so interesting. Be assured, Gene had a good belly laugh at us!

I've been to Emerson a couple of times (without kayak). I've never seen the launch. Where is it? Are there signs? Thanks Larry
