One-way Trip down the Hillsborough River

The Hillsborough River one-way staged paddle is one of the premiere paddles in this area, and one of my personal favorites.

The plan is to meet and unload the boats at the top of the river at Sargeant Park, drive a few cars down to Trout Creek, halfway downstream, we will picnic at Morris Bridge and then finish our paddle at Trout Creek.

Cars will be present at both ends to shuttle people and boats back to their respective cars.

Depending on how high the river is and how it is flowing, this paddle will require a moderate to experienced skill level paddle. Many species of wildlife can be seen.

Please bring: Water/drink and snack, sun protection, water shoe, camera, hat, boat, paddle.

DIRECTIONS: I-75 to Exit 265, Fowler going East to US-301. Turn left (North) to County park on left. Just over 1 hour drive from SRQ.

Those with cars up at Sargeant Park will be shuttled back to their cars and then return to back to Trout Creek to retrieve their boats. Don't worry - someone will wait and be present so that your boat remains safe. ;)

Depending on how high the river is and how it is flowing, this paddle will require a moderate to experienced skill level paddle. Many species of wildlife can be seen and we usually have fun counting the alligators, turtles and turkey vultures among the many species of birds.

Please bring: Water/drink and snack and or lunch, sun protection, water shoes, camera, hat, your boat, don't forget your paddle (it's happened), and anything else for a car trip and perhaps a change of clothes and a towel for the ride home.

I can take one other person and one boat - if you want to drive up with me.

Please also fill up your cars with gas - and also if you are interested in helping with the staging. ;)

    Greetings!

We have a very large group - please plan to be ON TIME on Sunday. THE PLAN - We will meet and unload the boats at Sargeant Park at 10:30am. A few of us will drive a few cars down to Trout Creek (depending on number of people and number of cars). Please make room for passengers in your cars.

While we are doing this, the rest of you will wait for us and get to know each other.

We will then return to Sargeant Park to paddle down the river with the group.

Halfway downstream, we will picnic at Morris Bridge and then finish our paddle to Trout Creek.

For those that do not have their own boats - I highly recommend renting a boat from Economy Tackle (941)[masked] in Sarasota. They are located on US 41 just north of Stickey Point on the west side of the trail. Tell them you are with me, Bonnie Hammer.

Otherwise, Canoe Escape (813)[masked], is the canoe and kayak outfitter, that is located within Hillsborough Park and will provide all the necessary equipment and instructions.
