Paddle with the Manatees

We will paddle on the Orange River in the warm discharge water from the power plant. Number of manatees varies, but usually quite a few are in the river in January. This is an easy paddle and length can vary depending on skill and experience. It is possible to see and paddle close to manatees as close as 1/4 mile from put-in. Ths is a Lee County Park and a parking fee is required. $1 per hour or $5 for the day. Rest rooms on site as well as a gift shop. Early start time is because parking area usually gets crowed by late morning. Any questions, please feel free to call me[masked] or email [masked]

Hi Bonnie, yes I will be there around 9.30, to help paddlers going. The weather has been cool lately so there should be manatees swimming downstream from the warm water power outflow.

Karen, fine with me, there will be lots of paddlers, also general public renting kayaks. Parking will be busier as the day goes on.

Hi Julie, its an easy paddling at the Manatee park. We will get a group together around 10 AM. There will be may other paddlers where the Manatees hang out. If you you go downstream you have to keep in mind that you have to go back upstream too. Upstream from the park is a nice paddle too. Hope to see on Sunday.
    Kees.

    Kees,
That would be great if you would. I suggest 10 AM as a starting time. That gives the 1st group time to get out of the launching area and on the river and still let your group launch before the parking gets to be too much of a problem.

    Julie,
I am also leading a trip on the Orange River this Friday. Since I will already be leading 20 paddlers on bith days in January, I can't come back and lead another group while I still have 20 paddlers on the river. If you can find someone else to lead the trip, that would be great. As warm as the Gulf is, unless we get some cold weather, there may not be many manatees in the river.

Since there are so many on both waiting lists, is it possible to set up a second paddle on Saturday that starts out 1 hour after the first one?

This is always a very popular paddle. Please sign up for only one of the 2 days, to give everyone a chance to see the manatees
