Christmas Lights Canal Paddle

Would you like to see decorated homes with Christmas lights from your kayak?

Punta Gorda has a 30+ year tradition of decorating their backyards with lights and many decorations. You will see lights, lights and more lights.

We will be out for about 2.5 to 3 hours. It's about a 45 minute paddle to the main lighted areas. You should be comfortable paddling at night! We will be in protected waters, except for a short swing out in the Harbor to get to the main lighted areas. Never more than 20 or so feet from the seawall. You must have a light, not only is it the law, it's quite prudent for safety.I like headlamps, they keep your hands free.

I would suggest only paddlers that are very confident would enjoy this trip, besides night travel, we will be close to some tour boats when in the main lighted areas. Just stay close to the seawall. Keep an eye on the temperature, it may be cool.

If you would like to decorate your kayak, that would be great. They have small battery powered string LED lights at Big Lots, Target and such. Brenda and I decorate our boats for the season. Not only is it festive, it's safer too !

Hey Aaron and Brenda. You guys are great. There's no one who knows local waterways any better. Thanks for leading a diverse group of paddlers and for giving me the help I needed. Its been a while since I had been to Harpoon Harry's and I really enjoyed making new friends.

Thank-you everyone for coming out, Great to meet some new friends and see some "old" ones. My compliments to everyone for their very good kayaking skills in some "unusual" conditions. I was a bit concerned putting this up, but not now, everyone handled themselves wonderfully, and made for a great and safe trip. Brenda and I would like to make this an annual excursion. "Merry Christmas" everyone !!!!!!

There are a few places we could have a drink at later, Deans, Shortys, Celtic Ray. Places to stay: MicroTel, about 3/4 of a mile north of Port Charlotte end of Harbor bridge, behind Bob Evans.About 3 miles farther north Days Inn.

Never said other battery powered lights were intended for indoor use. It would vary product by product. But what I ordered were advertised for "outdoor use". And there are no bulbs and sockets to get wet with the El Wire and it is something a bit different. There are may colors to choose from, but I went for Red for Port and Green for Starboard more than Christmas colors.

When you "originally" said that the "elwire" was intended for "outdoor" use, I naturally figured that maybe the other battery powered lights would/could be "just" indoor, hence why I asked you for clarification. Thanks Rudy! Elwire look and sound pretty good~! :)

I could make the 7th or the 14th work if you lead. And I'll bring extra lights. How do you feel about purple. LOL

I picked up some great lights at a good price on Amazon. I bought a couple of strings of "El Wire", electroluminescent wire. It's battery powered, intended for outdoor use and comes in a variety of colors. Reasonable price, too.
