STUMP PASS - SUNDAY

Sunday conditions are supposed to be good with winds at 7 mph....and warmer weather so I am changing this paddle to sunday.

Please arrive at the parking lot by 10 AM for a 10:30 launch.

Stump Pass State Park

At the southwest corner of Charlotte County, there is a mile of beach where seashells and shark teeth wash up, and anglers fish the surf for prize catches. Visitors can enjoy an excellent view of the Gulf of Mexico, as well as a stretch of undeveloped Florida coastline. Visitors come to this secluded beach to enjoy year-round swimming and sunbathing. Shelling is best during the winter months. A hiking trail passes through five distinct natural communities that provide homes for many species of wildlife. Covered picnic tables are located along the trail. While at the park, visitors might see doplhins, West Indian manatees, gopher tortoises, snowy egrets, least terns, and magnificent frigatebirds.

Take Hwy 41 South to Hwy 776 to Englewood. Continue on 776 to Beach Rd then turn right to Englewood beach. Turn left through the roundabout and follow the road south until it dead ends at Stump Pass Park. The address above is to the Weston Hotel. Pass the Weston and the road ends at the Park.

$3.00 per vehicle. Please use the honor box to pay fees. Correct change is required.

Bring sun screen and a lunch!

Great paddle-our weather started a little cool but warmed up and the water was like glass...saw the Horned owl on her nest too! Fun day!

For you birders, there is a Great Horned Owl nesting 1/2 mile from the parking lot right by the water (in Ski Alley). There are lots of Osprey, sightings of Razorbills, Kestrel, and the rare Millenium Falcon (joke). About 1 acre of the park washed away during Tropical Storm Debbie and is just now re-forming so you'll see lots of new areas on this paddle. We found a 1 1/2" sharks tooth last week, and horse teeth are being found as well.
